Our email account can usually accept attachments up to 30MB. A print ready PDF with photos can easily be bigger than that. The answer is a file sharing link. Here's how to send us big files with WeTransfer, Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive, so we can open them first time.
When to use a link instead of email
Use a link if your email says the attachment is too big, or if you have a lot of files for one job. Our job enquiry form is the best place to start. If your files are too big for the form, send them by link and put the link in your enquiry or in an email to print@riegers.co.nz.
Before you send
- Send one final PDF per document where you can. Please don't send a folder of unfinished files.
- If you have lots of files, put them in one folder and send the one link.
- Tell us the finished size, the quantity, the finishing and the date you need it by.
We're assuming your files are final. Our printing and finishing is the last step, so changes are much easier before the job is set up. If you're not sure how to set up artwork, our guide to crops and bleeds will help.
WeTransfer: quickest if you don't have an account
- 01Go to wetransfer.com and add your files.
- 02Choose to send by email.
- 03Enter print@riegers.co.nz as the recipient, and your own email so we can reply.
- 04Add a short message with the job name, quantity and date you need it by.
- 05Click Send. We'll get an email with a download link.
WeTransfer links expire after a set time, so send your files when you're ready for us to start. The screens change now and then, so the wording may look a little different.
Dropbox
- 01Upload your file or folder to your Dropbox.
- 02Click Share next to the file or folder, then create a link.
- 03Set the link so anyone with the link can view and download it.
- 04Copy the link and email it to print@riegers.co.nz with your job details.
We don't need a Dropbox account to open it. If the link only works for people you've added by name, we won't be able to open it.
Google Drive
- 01Upload your file or folder to Google Drive.
- 02Right click it and choose Share.
- 03Under General access, change Restricted to Anyone with the link, and set the role to Viewer.
- 04Copy the link and email it to print@riegers.co.nz with your job details.
This is the one that catches people out. A Restricted link means we have to ask for access, and that holds up your job until you reply. You can also add print@riegers.co.nz by name as a viewer if you'd rather not make the link open.
OneDrive
- 01Upload your file or folder to OneDrive.
- 02Right click it and choose Share.
- 03Choose Anyone with the link can view, then click Copy link.
- 04Email the link to print@riegers.co.nz with your job details.
Many work and school Microsoft accounts don't allow Anyone links. If yours doesn't, choose Specific people and add print@riegers.co.nz by name, or use WeTransfer instead. A link that only works for your own organisation won't open for us.
Test your link first
Open your link in a private or incognito window. If you can open it without signing in, we can too. It takes a minute and saves a day.
Confidential files
If your files are confidential, use a link that has a password or an expiry date, and tell us the password in a separate email or by phone. See our post on protecting your printing for more.
After you send
Please keep your link active until we've told you we have the files. We'll have a quick look over them when they arrive and let you know if something needs fixing, such as poor quality images, the wrong size, or content too close to the edge. Large files take time to upload and download, so please don't leave it to the last day. Most jobs are turned around in one or two days, and larger jobs are planned with you. We no longer do jobs while you wait.
See our print services page for everything we offer. We don't publish a price list because the cost depends on quantity, stock and finishing, so send us the details through the job enquiry form and we'll quote.
Common questions
How big is too big to email?
Many email accounts stop at around 20 to 25MB but we can generally accept up to 30MB. If you get an error or a bounce, send a link instead.
Do I need a Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive account for you to open my files?
You'll need your own free account with Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive to create the link, but we don't need one to open it. WeTransfer needs no account at all, which makes it the quickest option for a one-off job.
How long should I leave my link active?
Until we've told you we've downloaded the files. If a link expires before we've opened it, we'll ask you to send it again, which costs you time.
How will I know you got my files?
It always pays to give us a quick call on 04 473 1444 after you've sent your files via a link, just to make sure we've received them and can download them.
Any questions please let us know.
