How to Prepare a Court Bundle for Printing

Court bundle printing in Wellington goes smoothly when the bundle is finished before it reaches us. We're the last step: printing, tabbing and binding. Here's what to send so your bundle comes back looking tidy.

What we do, and what we don't

We print, tab and bind. We don't paginate or compile bundles, and we don't check the legal content. We're assuming your bundle is final and you're happy with the order of the documents. For how a bundle must be set up, please check the relevant court's guidance.

What to send us

  • The finished, paginated bundle as a PDF.
  • An index with page numbers showing where each tab goes.
  • The number of copies.
  • The binding you'd like. See below if you're not sure.
  • Whether it's printed single or double sided.
  • The date you need it by, with as much notice as you can give.

The index matters because we can't add tabs without it. We'd be guessing where each section starts, and a tab in the wrong place is easy to see once the bundle is bound.

Double-sided bundles and blank pages

In a double-sided bundle, a section that starts on a right-hand page needs a blank page behind the one before it. Without that, the next section can start on the wrong side. There are two ways to avoid this:

  • Send each section as its own file, and we'll start each one on a new sheet.
  • Paginate the bundle with the blank pages included, so the PDF already has every page in place.

Tell us which you've done. If you're unsure, let us know before you send and we'll talk it through.

Choosing a binding for your bundle

Wire binding is our most popular choice. It comes in 8mm to 32mm, in black, white or silver, with clear covers or printed card covers. For larger documents we use black plastic coil, from 8mm to 51mm. We can bind up to 450 pages in one document. If your bundle is bigger than that, splitting it into volumes is usually the tidiest answer, and we can plan it with you.

Perfect binding is an option for very large documents if you have a couple of weeks, but wire binding is the answer for most bundles.

Tabs, colour pages and A3 fold-outs

We print custom tabs with your numbers or titles. Send the wording with your index so the tabs match it exactly. We can also mix colour and black and white pages in one bundle, and fold A3 pages into an A4 bundle. Please list those pages by page number. You can read more about this on our print services page, and about the two ways we print in our post on digital vs offset printing.

Plan ahead

Bundles take time, so please don't leave them to the last day. Most jobs are turned around in one or two days, and larger jobs are planned with you. We no longer do jobs while you wait, and we'd rather not rush a bundle. Sending files early is the best way to avoid that. Confidential bundles are common, so see our post on protecting your printing. For a few more things to watch for, read 5 printing mistakes to avoid.

Common questions

Can you paginate or compile my bundle?

No. We're the last step in the process: printing, tabbing and binding. Please send us the finished, paginated bundle and an index showing the page number where each tab goes.

What does the court need my bundle to look like?

We can't say. Please check the relevant court's guidance before you finalise the bundle. We print what you send us and make sure it looks tidy.

How far ahead should I send a bundle?

As early as you can. Bundles take time to print, tab and bind. Most jobs are turned around in one or two days, and larger jobs are planned with you. We no longer do jobs while you wait.

When you're ready, send the details through our job enquiry form and we'll quote. We don't publish a price list because the cost depends on page count, stock and binding. Any questions please let us know. Thanks.
